Assign responsibility
Who deploys a release, checks backups or responds when a service stops? These questions need documented answers before production. Coverage and response commitments are defined according to the engagement.
Test restoration
Having a backup does not demonstrate that a service can be restored. Its contents, dependencies and restoration procedure must be understood. A restoration test provides practical evidence about business continuity.
Make systems observable
Logs, metrics and alerts should help explain what is happening. Useful monitoring prioritises actionable signals and clear responsibility. Sensitive data should not appear unnecessarily in technical logs.
Prepare for change
Libraries, operating systems and business needs evolve. A maintenance schedule and separate environments make updates easier to manage. Returning to a working version is part of deployment preparation.
